Beasts from the East

Recently I became very interested in the origins of my beasts. I wasn’t very happy about them. During the last 2 years the beasts in my work are  looking increasingly like  native American; a few years ago they used to be classically European.

NOW I want them to come to me from the east, I want them Dark, Musky and Melancholic

In my new series Beasts from the East, I’m exploring the oriental qualities of my beasts. As an Egyptian artist I refuse to be an orientalist; on the the other had I’m very keen on creating new work that taps into all the orientophobic nerves of the occidental eye.
